Dr. Melanie Smith is a 1990 graduate of Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Before opening Hometown Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Smith spent six years serving our country in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps. She was proud to have provided veterinary services for several Presidential pets, as well as the caisson horses at Fort Myer. Dr. Smith is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Northern Virginia Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Smith resides in Clifton, Virginia with her husband, four children, two dogs, three cats, and one lizard. When she’s not working, she enjoys riding horses with her father and spending time with her family at Lake Anna.
Dr. Amy Carlson graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. She grew up in North Carolina but moved to Michigan shortly after graduation where she practiced small animal medicine for about 12 years. She moved to Northern Virginia with her family last year. She feels the best part of her profession is fostering the special bond between pets and their owners. She loves to get to know new clients and always looks forward to seeing her established patients. Dr. Carlson is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Over the years, Dr. Carlson has shared the companionship of dogs, cats, cows, horses and goats. She is currently sharing her home with a Pomeranian mix named Trooper and a beautiful cat named Knight. Dr. Carlson really enjoys traveling, exploring the community and takes advantage of all family friendly activities!
Cim Cave is a Head Veterinary Assistant for Hometown and has been working with Dr. Melanie Smith since March 2001. She resides in King George, VA where she lives with her husband, Robert and 16 year old son, Sean. She has 3 dogs- C.J, Rock, and Barney who she loves very much.
Sarah Phillips is the Head LVT at Hometown Vet and has been working here since February of 2006. She attended Edison High School where she studied animal science, and then went on to Northern Virginia Community College where she graduated as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Since a young age, she’s had a love for animals which was passed on from her mother and grandfather. She has a Chihuahua named Dino and a cat named Sassy, who she rescued and bottle fed as a kitten. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and boyfriend.
Amanda Allen, our Head Receptionist, has worked at Hometown for 4 years. She has always had a strong love for animals and even as a kid dreamed of working with them. Amanda has worked in customer service for 10 years! She also works at Glory Days Grill as a bartender. She is a proud dog mom of her spoiled Lab mix puppy, Miller. In her free time she likes to spend it with her friends & family (and Miller of course), watch sports, shop, plan her wedding, and get her nails done.
